General, Spleen & Hernia Surgery
Comprehensive general surgical services including splenectomy, adrenalectomy, and advanced hernia repair techniques.
Expert General Surgery
In addition to our HPB and Upper GI subspecialty expertise, we provide comprehensive general surgical services. Our training in complex surgery translates to excellent outcomes for all procedures we perform.
We prioritise minimally invasive approaches where appropriate, including laparoscopic splenectomy, adrenalectomy, and hernia repair. These techniques offer faster recovery, less pain, and shorter hospital stays.
For complex or recurrent hernias, we offer advanced repair techniques including abdominal wall reconstruction and component separation for large defects.
Our Approach Includes:
- Minimally invasive techniques
- Advanced hernia repair options
- Laparoscopic splenectomy
- Complex abdominal wall reconstruction
- Rapid recovery protocols
- Comprehensive follow-up care
Surgical Procedures
Splenectomy
Surgical removal of the spleen, performed laparoscopically where possible. Used for haematological conditions, trauma, or splenic tumours.
Adrenalectomy
Removal of the adrenal gland for tumours or hormone-producing conditions. Usually performed using minimally invasive techniques.
Ventral Hernia Repair
Repair of hernias in the front abdominal wall, including umbilical and epigastric hernias. Open or laparoscopic approaches available.
Incisional Hernia Repair
Repair of hernias occurring at previous surgical incision sites. Complex repairs may require mesh and abdominal wall reconstruction.
Groin Hernia Repair
Repair of inguinal and femoral hernias. Multiple techniques available including open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches.
Conditions We Treat
Massive Splenomegaly
Significant enlargement of the spleen causing symptoms or blood count abnormalities. Surgical removal may be necessary.
Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP)
Autoimmune condition causing low platelet counts. Splenectomy is considered when medical treatment fails.
Adrenal Tumours
Benign or malignant tumours of the adrenal gland. Surgery is indicated for hormone-producing or suspicious lesions.
Abdominal Wall Hernias
Defects in the abdominal wall allowing protrusion of contents. Repair prevents complications like incarceration or strangulation.
